In a city as vibrant and diverse as Montreal, no one should have to choose between buying clothes and putting food on the table. Yet, with the rising cost of living, many families especially newcomers and low-income individuals are faced with exactly that choice. That’s where Community Closet steps in.
Community Closet is more than just a thrift store. It’s a non-profit, online platform built to support Montrealers in need by offering access to affordable, sustainable clothing, while also giving the wider community a chance to help. Our mission is to promote dignity, empowerment, and a sense of normalcy for those who are struggling to make ends meet.
We collect quality second-hand clothing from generous donors across the city and resell them online at low prices, following a “pay what you can” philosophy. Anyone can shop with us—but here’s the difference: all profits are reinvested directly into helping people who are facing tough times. Whether it’s providing essential items for a newcomer settling in Montreal, or helping a single parent outfit their children for school, every purchase helps create change.
We specifically aim to help:
Through clothing, we restore more than warmth or style, we restore dignity.
At Community Closet, we go beyond resale. We offer free workshops to teach sewing, clothing repair, and fabric knowledge. These skills can stretch a budget and even open new doors to employment. We want everyone to feel empowered—not only to dress well, but to live well.
Community Closet is funded through:
While large competitors like Poshmark, Value Village, and The Salvation Army are well-known, Community Closet’s purpose is what sets us apart. We don’t exist to profit, we exist to serve. Our local, targeted focus on newcomers and low-income Montrealers ensures your support reaches those who need it most, right here in our community.
Whether you donate, shop, or spread the word you’re helping make a real difference. At Community Closet, we believe in second chances—for people, for the planet, and for a more hopeful tomorrow.
